Insurance for household moves — explained simply

Transit cover vs all-risk cover, what's excluded, and how to file a claim if something arrives damaged.

Two policies you'll be offered

  • Transit-only: covers damage caused by an accident in transit (overturn, collision, fire).
  • All-risk: covers transit + handling damage during loading, unloading, and unpacking. Recommended for fragile-heavy moves.

Common exclusions

  • Pre-existing damage (always pre-inspect).
  • Items not packed by the mover.
  • Cash, jewellery, important documents.

Filing a claim

  • Note damage on the delivery sheet before signing.
  • Photograph immediately, ideally before unwrapping.
  • Submit claim within 7 days with invoice + pre-move inventory.
